Health And Nursing Law

For more than 15 years, I have helped LPNs, RNs, occupational therapists, physical therapists and other medical professionals with their legal needs. This includes representing clients facing disciplinary action before the Texas Board of Nursing and other health related entities and those who would like to establish a health care business.

I understand the medical terminology. My years of experience as both a nurse and an attorney have allowed me to help many clients achieve their goals and protect their careers because Clients have said they have found, in me, a professional and knowledgeable lawyer who they can trust. Perhaps this is because I am with them — like I will be with you — every step of the way. When I am not in court, I am in the office, working hard for my clients. Helping Nurses With Professional License Defense

I have been a registered nurse since 1986. Today, I am a member of both the State Board of Nursing and the Association of Nurse Attorneys. Fewer than 100 attorneys in Texas — and not even a handful of those in the valley — are nurse attorneys.

Why is it important to work with an RN lawyer? Many attorneys do not understand the ramifications nurses face, or how to handle investigations and administrative hearings before the Texas Board of Nursing or other medical or health related entities. I do. I know that you can face license suspension and administrative penalties for a wide range of charges, including:

  • Forgetting to give a patient medicine or giving the wrong dose
  • Criminal charges, including DUI, shoplifting, drug possession
  • Letting your license expire
  • Acting unethically such as posting a picture of your patient online

If you are in trouble with the Board, I can help you protect your license, from the Notice of Investigation to any necessary appeals. Even if you do not have a defense to the allegations against you, you may be able to keep your nursing license through participating in classes or a probation program.

Health Care Business Startups

There are very strict requirements for starting a health care business. Whether you wish to form a dialysis clinic or a home health care business, I can help you ensure all the paperwork is in order and that you meet all legal obligations.

For example, because of my versatility with the law, I was able to help one of my clients put together all of the pieces in order to start and run a successful dialysis clinic. This included, among other things:

  • Reviewing the commercial property lease
  • Reviewing employee payroll and analyzing employee credentials
  • Determining how Medicare/Medicaid played a role in the business
