A Great Desire To Help Others
The way I practice law, and the way I live my life, allows me to focus on what I believe is most important: helping others. Whether you are going through a difficult time — perhaps you face a hearing before the Texas Board of Nursing or a divorce — or you are looking toward the future and would like to draft a will or start a business, I can help you.
I am Ruth Gomez Serra. I have practiced law in Brownsville and surrounding areas since 1997. During that time, I have learned that compassion and honesty go a long way in helping my clients help themselves. I will never guarantee that we will win your case, but I will do all I can to help you get the best outcome possible for your unique situation. I will give you candid advice about your situation and your options, and then use my experience to help you achieve results. My experience includes:
- More than 15 years as a lawyer
- Nearly 30 years as a registered nurse
- Graduate of the University of Texas Health Science Center, School of Nursing
- Many years as a certified mediator
- Member of the Association of Nurse Attorneys
- Member of the State Board of Nursing
- Member of the family law section of the Texas State Bar
In order to remain up-to-date in both law and nursing, I frequently attend seminars such as continuing legal education classes and the Nursing Association Seminar. Learn more about my experience by clicking on the link below:
Registered Nurse Since 1986
Before I obtained my law degree, I was a traveling nurse. I worked as a perinatal and high-risk labor and delivery nurse in hospitals in Nevada, Texas and California. Today, my nursing degree remains a large part of who I am.
I use my knowledge of nursing and nursing/health law to help nurses and other professionals with a wide range of legal issues, ranging from professional challenges such as disciplinary hearings to personal issues such as divorce or car accidents.
Beyond Law: Volunteer Work
Outside of my legal work, I am an avid volunteer. I have been a member of the Catholic Daughters of the Americas since 2002. My work has included helping people who are homeless, providing support to single moms and teenagers who are pregnant, and helping people in convalescent homes on the road to recovery.
